Dies After Illness
BLOOMINGTON - Oscar Knapp, 79, pioneer resident of this community and prominent citizen of Grant county, died at his home here Thursday night. His health had been failing for several years.

Knapp was born in Nevada in 1860. The family lived in California for eight years, then returned to Grant county. Oscar attended school, worked on a farm, and taught school.

He married Miss Lucy Thomas in 1884, and they farmed until 1911, when they moved to Bloomington village.

Mr. Knapp was assessor of Bloomington town and village for three years, and of Bloomington town two years after they were separated, director and president of the Bloomington Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Co. from 1912-16, secretary of the Blake's Prairie Agricultural Society from 1912 to 1919, and treasurer, 1920-21; president of the village, 1913- 1925, with the exception of three years; and a prominent member of the county board at the same time; one of three trustees and secretary of the Grant County asylum and home; secretary and treasurer of the Peoples' Telephone Co., 1914-1920, secretary and treasurer of the Grant County Mutual Fire Insurance Co. and of the Bloomington Mutual Fire Insurance Co. until a few weeks before his death; president of the Bloomington State Bank a number of years; clerk of the local school board until 1938; president of the board of trustees of the Methodist church; and member of the Masonic and Eastern Star orders.

Mr. Knann is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clyde Bailie, Lancaster: and seven grandchildren. One daughter, Myra, died in 1923. Mrs. Knapp died two and one-half years ago.
