On August 23, 1898, he died of Typhoid Fever at Camp Wikoff, Montauk Point, NY. He was survived by his father Allison Ackart and a sister, Grace Ackart Sosey.
"The remains of William Ackart, who died at Montauk Point a few days ago will be brought to Oneonta for interment at Glenwood Cemetery. It is expected that the remains will reach here by Sunday, so that memorial services may be held."
