PFC Elijah Waters, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Snow Hill, North Carolina.

Private First Class Elijah Waters was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, PFC Waters served our country until December 14th, 1967 in Binh Duong, South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and was married. Elijah died from small arms fire. His body was recovered. Elijah was born on June 16th, 1946 in Snow Hill, North Carolina. PFC Waters is on panel 31E, line 095 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

Comrade in Arms and a good man. He was with the 4/23 Mechanized Infantry, assigned to the 25th Div. He was our forward observer for our mortar platoon. He was shot several times. I did not know him well, but was standing right next to him when he was shot. May God bless his family. He gave his all for this country. I will never forget him. George Compton.

PFC Elijah Waters, 21, of Charlie Company, Fourth Battalion Mechanized), 23rd Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, of Snow Hill, Route 2, was killed in action in Vietnam December 14. He is the son of Mrs Celia Waters of Snow Hill Route 2. PFC Waters was a 1965 graduate of South Greene High School at Snow Hill. He was a member of Brown Chapel Free Will Baptist Church at Snow Hill. The Greene County soldier embarked for Vietnam September 29 of this year. Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, the former Johnnie M Miller. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Kinston Funeral Home pending the arrival of the body.

He was the husband of Mrs Johnnie Waters, Route #1, Box 126, C/O Mr Johnnie Miller, La Grange, NC.

He served with Charlie Company, 4th Battalion, 23rd Mechanized Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
