James Arthur Athey was born in Pilot Cherokee county, on March 24, 1876. He was the son of Henry and Louisa Athey who both preceded him in death. He died at Sioux Valley hospital in Cherokee Friday morning, November 16, 1934, after a short illness. He was able to be up until the day before he died, when he was taken to the hospital. He has lived Cherokee county all his life.

September 25, 1901. he was united in marriage to Ruth Pennington, who survives him. To this union were born two daughters. Mrs. Carrol Whitehouse of California, Iowa, and Mrs. Robert Olson of Volga. S. D., and one son. Arthur Lee, at home, who were all present. Besides his wife and children and four grandchildren, he leaves to mourn two sisters, Mrs. Laura Pearl of Stockton. Calif., and Mrs. George Jenness of Quimby. and many friends.

Funeral services, for Arthur Athey of Pilot township will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church in Cherokee. Rev. M. P. Arrasmith of Storm Lake will be in charge with Rev. C. V. Hulse assisting. Burial will be made at Pilot cemetery. The body will remain at the Appleyard and Boothby funeral home until time for services.
