Joan Metcalf, 84, of Springfield, died at 12:36 pm, Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born October 2, 1932 in Kansas City, KS, to Martin and Mary Rahija Sambol. She married Dean Metcalf on July 20, 1957 and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include six children, Gregory (Michelle) Metcalf of Springfield, Deanne (Scott) Bell of McHenry, Michel “Mich” Metcalf, Christopher Metcalf, Daniel Metcalf and Todd (Jill) Metcalf all of Springfield; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jean Wiggans of Kansas City, KS and Liz Hoffman of MD; one brother, Don (Reva) Sambol of Indianapolis, IN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joan was a member of Christ the King Church and retired from the State of Illinois Department of Employment Security. Before starting a family she loved working as a Flight Attendant for TWA.

Memorial Mass: 12:30 pm, Friday, March 17, 2017 at Christ the King Church with Reverend Joseph Ring officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Staab Funeral Home, Springfield, IL.
