Born in Richmond, Virginia to James W. Edwards and Lula Pruett Edwards.She was the third of nine children and is survived by her sister, Mozelle Waldrop of Mechanicsville. Her parents purchased a farm on the North Anna River near Doswell, known as Ox Ford, the location of the Civil War battle. Her farming days were special to her. During WWI, the family sold the farm and eventually settled in Richmond. While in Richmond, she met and married Aubrey C. Carr. Their only child, Thelma, was born January 29, 1923. Mrs. Carr worked making cigarettes in the Richmond tobacco industry, among other jobs, and took care of her family. During WWII, they owned and operated a poultry store in Richmond, buying live chickens from the surrounding rural areas. In October 1950, she began to commute weekly to Alexandria to assist her daughter and take care of her grandson. In 1959, she and her husband moved permanently to Alexandria. Her husband and only child both died in 1983. She lived in her Alexandria home until her death.
