Corporal Albertis Williamson was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, CPL Williamson served our country until February 10th, 1968 in Gia Dinh, South Vietnam. He was 18 years old and was not married. It was reported Albertis died from multiple fragmentation wounds from a mine. His body was recovered. Albertis was born on June 1st, 1949 in Abbottsburg, North Carolina. CPL Williamson is on panel 38E, line 074 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
We grew up together. Bert, we worked together in the tobacco patches in Bladen County, NC when we were both young boys. I was saddened to hear of your fate, that of giving the ulimate sacrifice, but am proud to say I did have the opportunity to know both you and your grandmother, Ellen. I, as well as all Americans, greatly appreciate you and all the others who made this sacrifice which helps America to enjoy the freedoms we have today. God Bless, BUNK, David English Jr.
During the first two weeks of the TET Offensive the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry lost 20 men in a series of engagements in the border areas of Hua Nghia, Binh Duong, and Gia Linh Provinces just west of Saigon. CPL Albertis Williamson, Abbottsburg, NC (02/10/1968) was one of them.
He was raised by his Grandmother, Mrs Ellen Kendall, he also had a half-brother named Franklin Kendall.
A Darlington area Soldier, has been killed in action in Vietnam. Pvt Albertis Williamson, 18, Son of Mr and Mrs Walter Williamson of Route 2, Darlington, was reported killed in action February 10. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Jordan Funeral Home, Darlington.
He served with the Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The Individual Vietnam Cross Of Gallantry, The Unit Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, The Vietnamese Order Of Merit Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
