JOSEPH MAY DIES; CHURCH RITES PLANNED

PAINTING CONTRACTOR, 81; SERVICE WILL BE AT St. Mary's

Joseph J. May, 81, of 120 E. Cotton St., died at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Grancare Nursing Hospital where he had been a patient for the last three years.

Mr. May was born Jan. 10, 1885, in the Town of Forest, the son of Peter and Anna Michels May. He married Gertrude Kiersten June 13, 1911 in Johnsburg. She died in 1955. He was employed as a painting contractor for many years and was the custodian at the post office, retiring in 1957. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Holy name Society and the St. Joseph's Society.

Survivors include one son, Tech Sgt. Joseph E. May, serving in Formosa; one grandchild; and two brothers, Matthew and Henry residing in the city. He was preceded in death by one daughter, four brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Zacherl Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home and 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry A. Maurer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Funeral services for Joseph J. May, who died Monday, were held at 8:30 a.m. today at the Zacherl Funeral Home and 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church.

Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry A. Maurer was the celebrant of the Solemn Requiem High mass with Rev. Roger Z. Zens as deacon and Rev. John J. Schmitz, subdeacom.

Pallbearers were Frank Smith Jr., Robert May, James Spangle, Alex Bohlman, Leo Franzen and George Anders. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
