Richard Simon, age 73 was born in New Bern, AL. Nov 27, 1943. He moved to Gary IN with his family in Oct 1967, and joined Van Buren Baptist church where he was a faithful member and deacon, member of the choir as well as the united male chorus. Richard was actively involved in Brothers Keeper Shelter for homeless men. He retired from U.S. Steel in 2003 after 36 years. He also worked for Wise Way super market. Preceded in death by grandparents, his mother Willie M. Simon, father Richard Daniel, sister Elestine Simon, brothers Willie Simon and Charlie Simon. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara, daughters Robin Simon and Kimberly Vinegar, sons Christopher Simon and Steven Simon, granddaughter Kayla Vinegar, grandsons Clem Vinegar and Kobe Vinegar, great granddaughter Mya Renea Mariner. Brothers Eddie Simon, Alan Daniels and Kerry Daniels. Sisters Earlie M. Hill, Mary Simon, Murlene Simon, Beatrice Williams, Eloise Ward, Erma Reaves and Lela Daniel and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation Friday, March 31, 2017 from 9-11:00a.m. with family hour from 10-11:00a.m. with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00a.m. all services at Van Buren Baptist church 2585 Van Buren St. Gary IN. 46407. Pastor Dwight E. Mobley officiating. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
