Earl F. Shepherd Sr. age 86 of Kenton passed away at 6:17 a.m. on Monday April 3, 2017 at the St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born August 14, 1930 in Lenawee Township, Michigan the son of the late Willis and Mae (Brown) Shepherd. On June 20, 1953 he married Marybelle Sheldon and she survives. Earl is survived by his children Earl F. "Skip" (Sandi) Shepherd Jr., Howard (Cindy) Shepherd, Kevin Shepherd, and Lori (Tim) Clark all of Kenton; grandchildren Alicia Jane Cook, Kellie (Jared)Lautenschlager, Luke (Dawn)Shepherd, Kyle Shepherd (Tiffany Krapes), Katie (Michael) Mustain, Kory (Miranda) Shepherd, Derrick Shepherd, and Philip Shepherd; 19 great grandchildren; his exchange student "son" Stefan Hake of Greenwich, CT; twin brother Howard (Marcella) Shepherd of Kenton and brother Lloyd Shepherd (Pat Wyss) of Ada, OH; sister Carol Dodds of Kenton; and numerous nephews, nieces, and in laws. He was preceded in death by his brothers Willis H. "Bud", Gary, Merle, and Larry Shepherd and his sisters Kathleen Richey, Eulah Molk, and Bonnie Smith. He was a graduate of the McGuffey McDonald High School in 1948. Earl was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1948-1952 in the Korean War and enlisted in the Naval Reserves from 1957-1965. Earl was a Heavy Equipment Operator for 36 years with many of those years spent with the Tilton Corp. He was also a lifetime farmer. Earl was a lifetime member of the Roundhead VFW Post 8832; a member of the Hardin County Collectors and Restorers; collected and restored 2 cylinder John Deere tractors; and coached Little League baseball and adult softball teams. He was an Upper Scioto Valley School Board member for 2 terms. Earl will be missed dearly by his dog Sam. A memorial service will be held for Earl F. Shepherd Sr. on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the McDonald Township Hall located across the road from the McDonald Fairview Cemetery. Pastor Ted Bible will officiate the memorial service. The Kenton AMVETS Post 1994 Honor Guard will be performing full military honors. Burial in the McDonald Fairview cemetery will take place at a later date.
