Mary Shipman was born in Pennsylvania according to Census Records. Miss Mary Shipman, age 44, married John W. Martin, age 48, on 27 April 1862. in Morrow, Ohio, USA, Film Number 000317297. Besides becoming a wife on that day she also became the lead housewife for the head of household and an acting stepmother for the children of John Wesley Martin and Mary (Ogle) Martin who had died 4 February 1861 in Morrow County, Ohio. Mary (Shipman) Martin came with her husband and some of the children to Brown County, Kansas on September 22, 1868. In 1870 the couple and children were living in Claytonville Township in Brown County. In 1875 they were living in Brown County. Mary died on 7 December 1878 at the age of 61 years 1 month 26 days and was buried in Ununda Cemetery near Robinson, Brown County, Kansas. Freddie Martin and John Oscar Martin, grandsons of John Wesley Martin and Mary (Ogle) Martin and sons of Wilson S. and Rachel Vastine Martin had been buried at Ununda Cemetery at the time of her death. On 11 November 1890 he husband John Wesley Martin died and was buried along side her in Ununda Cemetery.
