Sallie Schmauch Abentroth died 9 March 2015, surrounded by the love of her family. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Gorder Jensen Funeral Home of Choteau, MT. A celebration of her life service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 27, at the Gorder Jensen Funeral Chapel.
Sallie was born 28 Sep 1946, in Kalispell, MT, to Leo and Ada (Ferris) Schmauch. She was raised in Libby, MT and graduated from Libby High School in 1964. She went on to college at Brigham Young University, Utah.
In 1969 she married Mike Abentroth in Libby. She raised her son and daughter in many towns in Montana and Alaska. Eventually, she settled in Choteau, MT, in 1987.
She worked 12 years in special education and Chapter 1 at Choteau Elementary, two years for 3 Rivers Communications and was a family service worker for Head Start. Sallie returned to Choteau schools and substituted for many years in grades K through 12. She was very involved with school activities. She scored Choteau High volleyball for 25 years and traveled to cheer on the Carroll College Saints volleyball team for four years. Over these years, Sallie loved and inspired many students. She was a second Mom to many kids. Sallie was also an avid reader and had such a love for animals.
She is survived by husband Mike, a son, a daugter, grandchildren, two brothers, several nieces, nephews and cousins in Montana and North Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents. To know Sallie was to love her.She was always there with a smile and hug.
