In the 1870 Polk County, Missouri census he was listed as a Deputy Sheriff and having been born in Ireland, and in 1870 was living with a 2-year-old Mariah Greer, but it's likely the "2" was supposed to be "2X" (as in 20-something) since she is listed as also having been born in Ireland, and it's clear that Robert had already been in the U.S. for longer than 2 years since he was a Civil War veteran. Thus, Mariah was probably his 20-something-year-old wife at the time (especially since her occupation was listed as "House Keeping" and 2-year-olds don't generally "keep house"), and the census enumerator made an error in writing her age.

Married Anna M. Johnson (poss. aka Martha Ann Johnson?) on 22 Dec 1883 in Manatee Co, FL.

Obituary, from "The (Hermitage, Missouri) Index," 12 Nov 1891:

The many friends and comrads [comrades] of Robert Greer will be greatly pained to learn of his death at his home in Sarasota Monatee [Manatee] County, Florida, Oct. 31st.

Mr. Greer was a sergeant of Company "B" [should be "K"?] 8th, Reg M. S. Cavalry and later was for four years Sheriff of Polk County, at the close of his official term he removed to the State of Florida where he has resided some 12 years.
