John Calvin Mothersbaugh was the son of Benjamin F. Mothersbaugh and Amanda McDivitt Stewart both of Blair county.
He was born in Antis Twp., Blair Co., Pennsylvania, and is recorded as being 4-months old on June 23, 1860 when US Census taken at Antis.

On June 1, 1870 at age 10, he resided on the family farm at Warriors Mark, Huntingdon, PA, with his parents and six siblings: Amanda A., Elizabeth, William, Sarah M., Nancy C., Emoline and James.

On June 16, 1880 at age 19 he resided at Decatur Twp., Clearfield county where he shared a residence with his recently widowed sister Elizabeth Heverly. He contributed to her welfare as a single man working in the coal mines. Other siblings William 22, and James 11 lived close by.

About 1886 at age 25 he married Margaret Jane Waite, of Grazierville.

He was preceded in death by his father and survived by his mother, wife and these five children: William Elliott Mothersbaugh, David, Myrtle, Mary and Lula May all at home.
