Mable was the daughter of Rasmus Olson and Engel Severeid. Her parents were emigrants from Norway. She had an 8th grade education.
She married Edward W. Berhow on Oct. 5, 1910 in Story County. He was a farmer, first in Huxley and then in Brookfield, Worth County. In 1930 census they list ten children:
1. Wesley, 19, born about 1911
2. Lowell Ellsworth, 17, born June 26, 1912
3. Ruby, 16, born 29 Mar 1914
4. Grace Marsella (Donald Jack) Linder, 14, April 8, 1916 - 26 August 2003 in Columbia, South Carolina.
5. Marvin Willis, 12, born May 31, 1918, twin
6. Marjorie Florence, 12, born May 31, 1918, twin
7. Frances Arlene, 9, born Aug. 9, 1919 - February 1, 2014
8. Betty, 7, born about 1923
9. Walter E. Jr., 4, born Nov. 22, 1925
10. Richard Lewis, 2, born Feb. 14, 1928
11. James Ronald Berhow, 1931–2013
