Several of the rescued passengers saw him alive and helping others get life vests as the ship was sinking. A number of people also claimed he was seen among survivors after the tragedy, and he was even on some of the survivor lists. Swedish, Finnish and Estonian authorities subsequently declared him among the lost and perished, however. Interpol issued a warrant for him to try to find out if he did survive somehow, but nothing has come of any of these claims as of February of 2007.
