EDINBURG, Texas - Diamantina Garza Bingham, 80, went to be with the Lord on February 2, 2013.

Diamantina was born on January 29, 1933 to Fidencio G. and Fela V. Garza.

She grew up in Rio Grande Valley and graduated from Mercedes High School where she was a member of the band and a twirler. She attended Pan American University where she received her B.A. in history and was the first queen of the Black and White Ball. She continued her education and received her Master's degree at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Having the heart and passion of an educator lead to many wonderful job opportunities in her lifetime. She taught at Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma, headed up the Adult Education Department and Upward Bound program at Otero Jr. College in Colorado, taught in the Edinburg Independent School District, and retired as an administrator in the Donna Independent School District.

She is preceded in death by her father, Fidencio G. Garza; mother, Fela V. Garza; brother, Judge Fidencio G. Garza, Jr., her loving husband, Robert G. Flannery and oldest daughter, Evelyn Flannery.

She is survived by her three children, Erin Flannery, Leslie Guerrero, Christopher Bingham; four grandchildren, Christina Flannery, Lindsay Brooks, Jarod Guerrero, Matthew Guerrero; two great-grandchildren and many loving extended family.

All will remember her for her beauty, intelligence, and perseverance. She will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. memorial service Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Sign the guest book at www.themonitor.com/obituaries
