She was born in Bishop Briggs, Scotland, and immigrated to the United States in 1926. She had lived in Rahway for 34 years before moving to Middletown in 1960.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Middletown Reformed Church and was the first female deacon to serve on the church consistory. She was also a former treasurer for the Ruth Circle and Flower Guild of the church. She was a former member of the Second Presbyterian Church, in Rahway, where she served on the board of deacons. .
She served on the Riverview Medical Center Auxiliary, Middletown. She served with the American Red Cross and Bundles for Britain during World War II. . Her husband, James, died in 1958. Surviving are a son, James H. of Middletown; four grandchildren, and four great-grandsons. Services will be 10:30.m. Monday at Middletown Reformed Church. Burial will be at Hazelwood Ceme tery, Rahway.
