Dwight Robert Humbert Droz, noted Scandia author, passed away at his home on July 12, 2009.

Dwight was born on December 29, 1912, in Centralia, Kansas, to Robert and Olga Humbert-Droz. His family traveled by covered wagon to a homestead in Declo, Idaho, which — along with Scandia — served as the setting for many of Dwight's books. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1933.

Dwight married Edith Pauline Schwartz in 1939; they had three children: Miriam Droz Amos (deceased), Deanna Droz Thome, and Dennis Robert Droz. The family moved to the Puget Sound area in 1942, where Dwight served in the Washington State Employment Security Department until he retired in the 1970s. Then Dwight began to fulfill his dream of becoming a gentleman farmer, operating Scandia Patch for over 30 years where many area children made happy memories visiting Mr. Droz' pumpkin patch.

Dwight is also survived by his dear sister, Dora Droz, of Topanga Canyon, California, and by 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 1 p.m., at Breidablick Baptist Church in Poulsbo.
