BURRVILLE - Mrs. John Andrews

Mrs. Octavia Andrews, wife of John Andrews, a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died las Friday evening at 7:15, of diabetes from which she had been a sufferer for years. Mrs. Andrews was born in Burrville, October 19, 1840, daughter of Thomas and Flora Drake Starks. She was the oldest of a family of 10 children, of whom only one, Mrs. Mary Ann Roraback, of Winstead, had died before her. Mrs. Andrews was a good neighbor and was beloved by all who knew her. Before she was married she taught school for some time. After her children were grown up, she went out nursing some of the time, until failing health compelled her to cease. Living at a distance, she was unable to attend the meetings of the Ladies' Aid Society here, but would furnish the material and make a garment a month for it, as long as she was able. She would sometimes piece the outside of a bed quilt and give for the society to finish. The last few weeks of her life, she was confined to the bed and was cared for by Mrs. Ellen Beardsley of Winstead. She is survived by her husband, two sons, William, who lived at home, and Ernest, of Waterbury, and one daughter, Mrs. Duane Roraback of Wallins Hill, Winstead, and several grandchildren. Four brothers also survive her, Hiram, Thomas and Lincoln, who live on the Newfield Road, and Roger, of Winchester, and four sisters, Mrs. Adie Beckley, of Danbury Quarter (Winchester) Mrs. Harriet Beach of Norfolk, Mrs. Jennie Archer of Suffield and Mrs. Flora Merrill of Nepaug, who is spending the winter in Florida. On account of a train being an hour late in New Hartford, Mrs. Archer was unable to reach here in time for the funeral. The funeral was largely attended from her late home Monday at 1 p.m., the Rev. Arthur Goodenough of Winchester officiating. Mr. Goodenough said he had conducted the funeral services of her father, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. J.H. Burr sang "Face to Face," and "Lead, Kindly Light." There was a profusion of beautiful flowers. The pallbearers were her two sons, Wilbur and Ernest Andrews, and her two brothers, Thomas and Lincoln Starks. Burial was in the Burrville Cemetery, E.P. Jones of Winstead being in charge.
