C. K. Marquis, a well known Aledo resident and former business man, passed away last night at his home on North Maple street, following an illness of several days. Mr. Marquis has lived in Aledo practically all his life and is known throughout the township. For many years he conducted a grocery store in Aledo. He is survived by his wife.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Marquis residence on North Maple street for C. K. Marquis, former Aledo business man, who passed away last Friday following an illness of several days.

Dr. Samuel Van Pelt of the First Methodist church of Aledo had charge of the services. Interment was in the Aledo cemetery.

Business houses of Aledo were closed from 2:30 until 3:30 o'clock at the request of C. A. Haas, president of the Aledo Retail Merchants' association.

Mr. Marquis was born in Davenport, Iowa, on Nov. 24, 1856. In 1857 his parents moved to a farm in Mercer county, where he resided until a young man, when he, with his brother, A. L. Marquis, purchased a grocery store in Aledo. Mr. Marquis was associated in this business for 35 years, when he was forced to retire because of ill health.

Mr. Marquis was a member of the Methodist church and had always been a faithful attendant.

Besides his widow, he is survived by four brothers, Grant of Aledo, Fred of Ottumwa, Iowa, A. L. of Portland, Ore., and one sister, Mrs. Bird Stratton of Corning, Calif.
