Noah was born in Giblet in the parish of Coity Higher, Glamorganshire in Wales on the 25th of April 1831. The loved son of Thomas and Mary Howell nee Bevan, he grew up on a 125 acre farm and was one of several siblings that included Thomas born 1817, Margaret born 1827, Olive born 1825, (Noah born 1831), William born 1834 and Rebeccah born 1838. His father died in 1840 when Noah was ten years old, and the family stayed on the farm.
Noah married Jane Williams in 1861 on the 21st of September in Bridgend, Wales and they emigrated to New Zealand settling in the Opotiki District where the family were farmers.
