Shirley Vivian Gade Konze, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 6, in Austin, Texas. She was 96.

Shirley Konze was born in Lewisburg, Ohio, on October 6, 1920, to Lydia Shirley and Raymond Gade. At 17, she entered nursing school in Dayton, Ohio, and after graduating attended Ohio State University. She served as a lieutenant in the Navy Nurse Corps in the Pacific theater during World War II. Soon after the war, she met her future husband, Bodo C. Konze, an Army Air Force pilot. They were married on Guam in 1947 and eventually settled in San Antonio.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Karen Konze and partner Charles Kaplan of Canyon Lake and Roxanne Konze Robison of Austin; two grandchildren, Taylor and Adrian Robison of Austin; sisters, Glenna Rummel and husband, Roger, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Penny Haug and husband, John, of Chester, N.J.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Bodo C. Konze Jr.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A Private interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
