Al Duhr, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away Saturday, May 6, in Bradenton, Florida, at age 78.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his eight children, Paul, Kim (Noel) Neefe, Susan (David) Kravitz, Stephen (Dawn Jefferson), Lisa, Kellie, David (Justine Duhr) and Sarah; his five grandchildren, Cassidy, Lindsay and Carrie Neefe, and Sarah and Naomi Kravitz; his two sisters, Marge Cummings and Velda Duhr; his former wife, Barbara Duhr; and his innumerable nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by nine brothers and a sister.

Al was born and raised in Richland Center, Wisconsin. He was an academic standout and a three-sport star at Richland Center High School (Class of ’56); in 2009 he was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He obtained an undergraduate and an advanced degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Marquette University, respectively. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1962 to November 1963 at Fort Leonard Wood.

In 1969, Al co-founded Construction Forms Inc., a concrete pumping supply business that has employed, and continues to employ, hundreds of people from in and around Ozaukee and Milwaukee counties. Al and his partners sold the company in 1996, and Al retired to spend more time with his family. Since then, he and Peggy have followed the seasons back and forth from Cedarburg, Wisconsin, to Bradenton, Florida, and his family and friends have followed them in turn.

Al spent much of his free time advocating for and donating to organizations through his own Duhr Family Foundation, a signal of the generosity and kindness with which he treated family, friends and strangers alike.

And if you know where to look, you just might find a statue of Al in his Richland Center hometown.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 13, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1167 Washington Ave., Cedarburg. A service will follow, with a burial immediately afterwards at Zur Ruhe Cemetery, Bridge Street, Cedarburg.
