John & twin sister Clarissa were the youngest of the eight children born to John Pool (who died the same year they were born) & Sarah née Clark. He was named after an older brother John (1776-1781) who died young.

Note: the Poole family were of English descent but dropped the final "e" while in America. Several of John's sons restored usage of the original spelling.

John married Lydia Nash on December 9th, 1810 in Abington, MA. The couple had nine children (see his wife's link for details).

The Pool monument lists five names: John & his wife Lydia, granddaughter Florence A (daughter of their son William), grandson Alva A (son of their son William) & Jennie N (Alva's wife).
