Brother to Dabney Finley. Son of William Joseph Finley and Mary Judith Pettus.
Asa obtained multiple land patents in Saline County in 1824 including several in Township 49, Range 20 where the Finley family cemetery was located in Section 26. Since he is known to have died in Saline County, Missouri, the logical place for his interment was the family cemetery.
Asa Finley was elected as Representative of Saline County to the Missouri Legislature in 1822 and 1824 or 1826. He was elected in 1824 as the first judge in Arrow Rock. Asa Finley and his wife, Esther Gleaves Finley, helped found Salt Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church. They and other founders took turns holding services in their homes until the church building was built. Later a church was built a half mile into Cooper County east of the Finley Family Cemetery and it appears that after the family cemetery land was sold, Finley burials were placed in the church cemetery.
