Ida graduated from Augustana College in 1965 with a Bachelors in Education. She became a Physical Education teacher at United Township High School. She also coached the High School Girls Volleyball team and officiated volleyball. During the summers, she taught swimming lessons at area pools. After retirement, she volunteered her time at local hospitals. Ida was an avid Riverdale sports fan in her later years.
She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Cheryl) Nitz, Harry (Sue) Nitz and Dale (Pam) Nitz; grandchildren, Tony (Laura) Hatfield, Jason (Sadie) Nitz, Rachael (Jay) Church, Cheryl (Jeff) Jacob and Beth (Ted) Koch; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Anna; brothers, James, Leon and Miles Huffman; and a sister, Marion Norberg.
