He is the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Griggs. (Elizabeth may have been the preferred alternate name of a Margaret Williams who married a Thomas Griggs in Roxbury on Sept. 1, 1743. Supporting this speculation, the first recorded child of Thomas and Elizabeth of Brookline, daughter Elizabeth, was born in Roxbury in 1745 according to the entry in the Vital Records of Brookline to 1850. In the VR of Roxbury, her parents are identified as Thomas and Margarett.)

Husband of Mary (Goddard) Griggs. They married in Grafton in July 4, 1776 !!

From the Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in The War of the Revolution, Vol. 6, Pg. 893:

"Griggs, Thomas, Sutton. Corporal, (late) Capt. Arthur Dagget's (Sutton) co. of Minute-men, Col. Larned's regt, which marched to the alarm of April 19, 1775; service, 26 days; roll dated Roxbury Camp; also Sargeant, Capt. John Howard's co., Col. Jonathan Holman's regt.; service, 30 days, with Northern army at the time of the reduction of Gen. Burgoyne; warrant for pay allowed in Council May 4, 1778; also, Capt. Jonathan Woodbury's co., Col. Jacob Davis' regt.; marched July 30, 1780; discharged Aug. 8, 1780; service 13 1/2 days, travel included, on an alarm at Rhode Island."
