Roman Catholic Cardinal. Chioggia born Aristide Cavallari frequented the local seminary before moving to Venice along with his family, where he entered the Patriarchal Seminary of the city. Ordained priest there on September 27, 1872 by Cardinal Giuseppe Luigi Trevisanato, he rendered pastoral ministry in various parishes, including those of Sant'Elisabetta di Lido, San Canciano, Treporti, and San Pietro di Castello. Honorary canon of the cathedral chapter of Venice, synodal examiner and official of patriarchal curia, he worked close to the Cardinal Patriarch of Venice, Giuseppe Sarto, who once elected Pope Pius X, elected Cavallari auxiliary for the patriarchate of Venice just days following his election, with dispensation for not having a degree, while allowing him also to retain the archpriesthood of San Pietro di Castello, which office he had held since 1888, seeing from his end an active zeal that included educational and humanitarian promotions. Receiving his episcopal consecration with the titular see of Philadelphia in Arabia on August 23, 1903 inside the church of the Franciscan Missionaries in via Giusti, Rome, from Cardinal Francesco Satolli, he was named vicar general of Venice on January 30, 1904 and went on to be promoted patriarch of the see on the following April 15. The same Pope created him cardinal priest in the consistory of April 15, 1907 with the title of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, deaconry elevated pro illa vice to title. During his patriarchate, he held the rectorship of the patriarchal seminary between 1903 and 1910 in accordance with the wishes of the Pontiff and oversaw the reconstruction of the steeple of Saint Mark's Basilica that collapsed in 1902. Passing away shortly after Pope Pius, his body reposed in the chapel of San Cristoforo inside the cemetery of San Michele until November 1957, when Patriarch Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, future Pope Saint John XXIII, had his remains transferred to the crypt of Saint Mark's along with those of a number of other predecessors of his in the patriarchate of Venice.
