Funeral services for Melvin H. Bemis, 80, were in Quam Chapel Saturday, the Rev. Harvey Senecal officiating. Burial was in the Cooperstown Cemetery.

Mr. Bemis was born in Benson County, Minnesota, January 15, 1882, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bemis. The family moved to Steele County, Dakota Territory, in that same year.

A graduate of the University of North Dakota, he taught school in the Cooperstown area and later was a mail carrier in Concrete, North Dakota. He worked for a railroad and reside in the Minneapolis, Minn., until he recently retired and moved to Cooperstown.

His first wife preceded him in death. He married Mrs. Bessie Cashman at Cando May 28, 957. She survives.
A brother, Byron, died in 1958, and a sister, Mrs. Charles (Myrtle) Porterville, died in February, 1961.
