Death of Hon. William Milliken
By the death of Hon. William Milliken, which occurred, Sunday nights at his home on Filmore place, Gardiner loses a respected citizen, who had been connected by his business relations with the city for many years. Mr. Milliken was born in Scarboro, Me., April 16, 1819. His parents moved to this city when he was but 7 years old and lived on a farm in West Gardiner. He lived with them till he was 21. He moved to Bingham in 1841 and was in business there for 18 years, holding during that time several positions of responsibility. In 1848 and 1849 he represented the towns of Burnham, Unity, and Knox in the Legislature, was senator from the 3d District in 1851 and 1852. He returned to this city in 1859 and from that time util 1859 and from that time until 1898 was engaged in the boot and shoe business, then retiring on account of his age.

In 1848 he married Mary A. Lyon of Momnmouth, who survives him, together with a son, Fred E., and a daughter, Fannie E. About six weeks ago, he was taken with a bad cold which rapidly developed into complications which caused his death. The funeral will be held from his late residence, at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Plant officiating.

The funeral of the late Hon. William Milliken was held from his late home, Fillmore place, at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, many of his friends being in attendance. Rev. J. L. Quimby of the Congregational church officiated. The floral tributes were very beautiful and appropriate. The bearers were Ammi Davenport, George Gray, Sidney G. Decker and Hon. O. B. Clason. The remains were deposited in the tomb at Oak Grove cemetery to await interment.
