Thelma received a B.A. degree from Queens College and her J.D. degree from New York University School of Law in 1954. She practiced law in N.Y.City before she and Alexander moved to Ames in 1967. She served as partime judicial magistrate in Iowa's Second Judicial District from 1973-1977.
She and Alexander had children Andrew Moushegh, Lisa and Rimma Abian.
