Rolly was born March 5, 1914 in Jamestown, N.Y. to parents Arthur L. and Jessie M. Boardman.
Rolland (Rolly) Boardman of 664 Park Avenue, Woolrich, passed away peacefully Sept. 23 at home.
After graduating from Jamestown High School in 1932, Rolly worked a number of jobs before taking a position in the stock room at Taylorcraft, an airplane manufacturer in nearby Bradford in 1936. In 1937 he moved to Lock Haven when William T. Piper purchased the company and moved the operations to the area. While with Piper, Rolly not only earned his private pilot's license (with both single and double-engines ratings) but also spent time in Argentina promoting sales in South America and in Ponca City, Okla., acting as the planning superintendent for Midwest operations. He retired in 1974 as director of manufacturing.
On July 19, 1941, Rolly married Virginia Alice Confer at Millbrook Farm in Bald Eagle Township. They were happily married until her passing in 2008.
Rolly and Ginny enjoyed traveling with friends. His time at home was spent gardening, golfing and tinkering in his garage. After retirement, he kept himself busy with new endeavors.
Rolly joined the Woolrich Volunteer Fire Company and managed the financial affairs of the company for close to 30 years. He was also instrumental in the development, construction, and management of Rich Manor, a senior-living apartment complex in Woolrich. In the late 70s and early 80s, Rolly delightfully agreed to model in print advertisements for Woolrich's clothing line.
Surviving are a brother, a daughter, of State College; a son, of Woolrich; four grandchildren, two granddaughters, two great grandsons, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, two brothers and a sister.
The family held a private memorial.
