Bruce Eddie Boardman, 91, of Jamestown, went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2021 while a resident at Lutheran Social Services, the result of a fall at home.
Born in Jamestown, he and his family resided in Busti for many years. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1948 and won a scholarship to the Cleveland School of Art. He enlisted in the Navy and served from 1950 – 1954, aboard a heavy cruiser, the USS Macon. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Electrician First Class. While docked in New York City, he arranged a date with his future wife of 66 years, a nurse named, Ruth Elaine VanHorn.
A long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church, he served as deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sr. High boys Sunday School, trustee, and was the Captain of the Brigade Program.
He was also a counselor at Camp Mertz and a Boy Scout leader, and supported the Jamestown Audubon and the Roger Tory Peterson Institute.
Upon leaving the Navy, he worked as an electrician for 12 years at Neubauer Electric and 23 years at Ahlstrom Schaffer Electric. He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local # 106.
Bruce loved to hunt, fish, trap, garden, raise animals and be in the outdoors appreciating God's creation.
One of his greatest joys came from sharing his time with his wife of 66 years, his 4 sons, and extended family telling his jokes, but most of all from sharing his love of God. He spent much time reading his Bible and praying for others. The foundation that made him the kind, considerate, polite, and compassionate person he was. He always said his greatest joy was leading his father to the Lord while he was in WCA Hospital just prior to his passing.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Boardman, 3 sons: Randy (Becky) of Frederick, Maryland, Todd (Gail) of Jamestown, NY, Chris (Andrea) of Collegeville, PA, 10 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie and father Arthur Lyle "Lop" of Busti; his brothers, Arthur Jr. of Busti; John of Barcelona, Spain; and Rolly of Woolrich, PA; sister Helen Anderson of Busti; son Greg Sr. 53; and 5-week-old daughter, Pamela.
Friends will be received at the Falconer Funeral Home from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 13th with a service for family and relatives at 1 p.m.
