Mr. McElrath was the son of the late J. Dave and Myrtle Hall McElrath. He was formerly employed as a machinist at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. He is survived by his wife Edith Gentry McElrath, sisters Mary Warren of Candler, Hazel Weber and Lena "Boots" Creech both of Newport News, VA and brother Jim McElrath Jr of Boone, NC. Groce Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
