He retired from farming at Kilbourne and moved about 10 years ago to Chandlerville where he was engaged in the restaurant business. He retired from that about three years ago. He had served one term as highway commissioner of Kilbourne Township.
Born near Kilbourne on March 1, 1886, he was a son of Lorenzo Leonard and Rosa Jane "Rosie" Daniel Hughes. He married Cordelia Mary Ketcham at Kilbourne in 1916 and she died in 1941.
Surviving are three sons, Otis Wayne Hughes of Kilbourne, Harold of Ceres, CA, and Howard Clifton Hughes, who is in the service in South Vietnam, eight grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Friend of Kilbourne and Mrs. Bertha Davis of Havana, three brothers, Frank, Ross and Glen, all of Kilbourne.
A son, Roy Hughes, preceded him in death.
Mr. Hughes was a member of the Christian church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 1963, in the Lintner Funeral Home at Chandlerville. Rev. James Organ, of the Christian church, will officiate and burial will be in the Kilbourne Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the funeral home this evening.
