Son of Abraham Davenport, Sr. and Mary Simms. He was a resident of Berkeley County, Virginia (now Jefferson County, W. Virginia) at the time of the Revolutionary War. Abram served as an officer, entering the service in the spring of 1776 in Colonel Moses Rawlings' regiment of Maryland Riflemen.
He was married to Frances Williams on January 22, 1779 in Maryland. She was born in 1751.
