                         Deaths
    BRUNING—Vernie Bruning, 72, Route 2, Hiawatha, died suddenly late Friday evening, April 19, 1974. Vernie, the son of August and Minnie Gerdemen Bruning was born June 23, 1901 in Robinson. Vernie and his wife, Pearl King Bruning, lived near Robinson and farmed there and later moved to Denton in 1932 to make his home until his retirement in 1967 when they moved to Hiawatha. He was a member of B.P.O.E.#1741, Denton Lodge AF and AM #449, Denton United Methodist Church, and Knights Orient of Huron. He was married on February 19, 1925, to Pearl King in Troy, Kans. She preceded him in death on September 19, 1972. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Virgil (Jean) John, rural Hiawatha; two brothers, Arthur Bruning of rural Robinson, and Andy Bruning of Nickerson, Kans., four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Mueller of Hiawatha, Mrs. Warren (Lorrene) Luster of rural Robinson, Mrs. Joe (Goldie) Frakes of Hiawatha, Mrs. Sherman (Virginia) Daeschner of Hiawatha; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
    Funeral services were held from the First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha, Monday, April 22, at two-thirty o'clock, p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Castle officiating. Mrs. Eugene Hillyer, organist accompanied Donald Winter who sang "Sunrise Tomorrow" and "Be Still My Soul." Honorary floral assistants were Mrs. Cora Houchens, Mrs. Jim Davis and Mrs. Dale Walsh. Pallbearers were Rex Bruning, Jon Daeschner, Ed Denton, Jim Davis, Eldon Bruning and Bill Mueller. Interment was at the Mt. Hope Cemetery with the Denton Masonic Lodge AF&AM #449 conducting graveside services.
