Absalom Radcliffe was born on May 10, 1830 in Tennessee, the son of Ben Radcliffe and Jane (Cole) Radcliffe.

He was married about 1864 in Nashville to Ellen Halfacre (1846–1935).

A teamster living at #45 Maury Street, he was 87 years old and married when he died of arteriosclerosis at home on July 4, 1917. Burial was three days later in Mount Ararat Cemetery.
