Ruby LaVern Starbuck passed away peacefully in McKinney, Texas on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 after a brief illness. Born in Ancho, New Mexico on September 7, 1934 she was the fourth of the nine children of William F. and Hazel Marie Birch Munsterman.

She married Robert A. Bracey and moved to Anchorage, Alaska while he served in the Air Force, then moved to Boston, Massachusetts. LaVern spent several years traveling the world with Robert while he was working overseas for the United States Government. She provided stability, love and comfort to her family while organizing and overseeing household moves and assimilating new cultures and schools in Liberia, England, Germany, Japan and Portugal.

LaVern married Douglas R. Tepley in 1980 after her divorce from Robert. He too worked for the US Government overseas; during their marriage they lived in Milcombe-near-Banbury in Oxfordshire, England and Athens, Greece. They returned to the United States when Doug retired from government service, and they lived first in Missouri, then in Minnesota until their divorce in 1994.

She returned to Missouri and married Charles L. (Bill) Starbuck, and they moved to a small farm in Carthage, where she fulfilled her love of the outdoors. LaVern raised cows and chickens, tended her flower and vegetable gardens, and canned her crops. She was also an expert seamstress and quilt maker, and enjoyed crafts, cooking, fishing and baseball. In 2007, Bill and LaVern moved to McKinney, Texas to be closer to her daughters, sons and grandchildren.

LaVern was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend and will be deeply missed. She was happy with simple pleasures in life but was most content when spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by: husband, Charles L. Starbuck; both parents; brothers Cleo Munsterman, Darrell Munsterman, Douglas Munsterman, William F. Munsterman, Jr.; sisters Phyllis White, Viola Morgan, Beverly Pape; children Virginia Lee Bracey (1956) and Donald Arthur Bracey (1959-1965), and adult daughter Lin Marie Bracey Held.

LaVern is survived by: her brother, Melvin (Linda) Munsterman; son, Glenn Bracey; daughter, Debra (Greg) Layman; son, Richard (Anke) Bracey; grandson, Justin R. Held; step-grandsons, David (Kristie) and Daniel Layman; granddaughters, Emily (Tate) Miller and Alexandra Lin Bracey.

Visitation will be held at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home on Friday, June 16th at 6:00PM. Graveside service will follow on Saturday, June 17th, 2017, 12:00PM at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney, TX.
