The second child of Francis William Leland and Emily Shepherd. Married Sarah Matilda Allden, the daughter of William Spratt Allden and Lydia Gillett, on 3 Aug 1870 in Chettisham, Nr Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. John and Sarah lived at Beltichburne House, Nr Drogheda. They had 7 children, all born at Beltichburne. There is a memorial to John inside St Brigid’s Church. He was a Church Warden and benefactor of the church for 40 years.
