Mrs. Stevens was born February 21, 1919 at Blue House Plantation, Edisto Island, SC, a daughter of the late Edward Malcolmson Bailey and Mary Pinckney Beckett Bailey.
She was a graduate of Edisto Island High School and Winthrop College, Class of 1939. She was a teacher in Charleston County Schools. She was a member of St. Paul's Parish Garden Club for over 50 years. She was a member of Christ St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are, son, William Johnson Stevens, Jr. (Susan Walker Groves) of Yonges Island; daughters Alice McClung Stevens (Augustus Yates Woods) of Alexandria, Virginia and Elizabeth Pinckney Stevens (David Lindsey Sanders) of Mobile, Alabama; sister Mary Pinckney Bailey of Charleston; brother Edward Legare Bailey of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; grandsons, William Johnson Stevens, III and Robert Walker Groves Stevens both of Yonges Island; granddaughters, Bailey Stallworth Sanders and Catherine Legare Sanders of Mobile, Alabama.
