OGDEN – Virgil Martin, 86, of Ogden passed away at 3:03 a.m. Tuesday (July 4, 2017) at Helia Healthcare Nursing Home, Champaign.

He was born on Nov. 12, 1930, in Richmond, Ky., the son of Nathan and Lilly (Hill) Martin, both deceased. He was united in marriage to Betty Waldrop on July 28, 1976; she survives.

He will be dearly missed by children Patty (Mike) Carter of Ogden, Nancy (Lowell) Prewitt of Florida, Greg Timm of Charleston and George Martin; grandchildren, Christina Langley, Nicholas (Lauren) Carter, Kimberly Soard and Robin (Derrick) Gill; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Lynn Martin.

He was preceded in death by brothers Willard and Harold Martin; and sister, Lucille Martin.

Virgil was proud to serve his country in the Navy. He loved to fish and always had a story to tell, that always ended in a joke.

A Celebration of Virgil's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. He will be laid to rest in Tuscola Township Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
