Ethel was born in Green township, Ohio to Clara (nee Liter) and Lewis Grooms. Her mother died when she was a little girl, so she was raised by her step-mother, Dora. Ethel married Ruford Moore. Their children were Norman William, Evelyn Goldie, Vernon Lewis, Virginia Ethel, Donald Raymond, Robert Lee, Richard Eugene, Betty Jane, Thomas Edward, and Shirley Marie.
