Alta Wilson, 70, died Feb. 17, 2007, in North Bend, Ore., with her family by her side.

She was born May 28, 1936, in Cody to Walter "Bud" and Joan Horner Nordquist, the oldest of three daughters. She attended school in Cody and graduated from high school in 1954.

Her plans to attend business school in the fall were cancelled when she was diagnosed with polio late that summer.

On March 11, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Gary Smith. They moved to Lewistown, Mont., where their first son, Gregory, was born. They returned to Cody where their second son, Douglas, was born.

She was active in the boys' activities as they grew up, including being a Cub Scout den mother.

Following Gary's death Nov. 16, 1977, she moved to Buffalo and managed a motel for her sister and brother-in-law. On Nov. 24, 1979, she married Harry Wilson. They lived in Billings, Columbus and Kalispell, Mont., before moving to Oregon, where they lived in Coos Bay and North Bend.

In both Montana and Oregon she was "Mom" to numerous foster children. Her ceramic pieces are treasured by many, as well as her crocheted creations. She was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church, a former member of Rebekahs and a long-time member of TOPS.

She enjoyed participating with her husband in their local "old ears" club. She was a people person and remembered everyone she met.

Alta is survived by her husband of North Bend, son Douglas (Mary) Smith of Cody, stepchildren Suzanne (Sam) Al Idelbi, Jon (Debbie) Wilson and Janelle (Dennis) Holton, three grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild, sisters Vivien (Bob) Kosmann of Cody and Lois (Carl) Madsen of Buffalo, aunts Mary Horner and Cora Clark, both of Cody, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and son Gregory.

Cremation has taken place and services were conducted in Coos Bay on Feb. 25. A memorial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Ballard Funeral Home.

Memorials may be sent to South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, 97420. Condolences may be sent to Harry Wilson, 69696 Wildwood Drive, North Bend, 97459.
