"Francis Honoré, son of Jean Antoine Honoré, was born at Baltimore, MD in 1792, and came to Louisville, KY with his parents when fourteen years old. He became of the city's influential citizens, devoting himself, however, to the life of a country gentleman, owning and operating a large plantation in the vicinity of Louisville. He married Matilda Lockwood, a daughter of Capt. Benjamin Lockwood of the United States Army. Mrs. Honoré was a lady of charming personality and admirable traits of character, and her influence was marked in the lives of her children."
(from a biography of her son Henry Hamilton Honoré that was included in the Biographical and Memorial Edition of the Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois, Volume 1 edited by Newton Bateman and Paul Selby. Published 1916)
"Francis Honoré was born in Baltimore in 1792, but grew to manhood and spent the greater portion of his life in Kentucky. Having a comfortable fortune and less taste for affairs, Francis Honoré engaged much less actively in business than his father had done, and much of the time he lived at his country place in the interior of the state. He married Matilda Lockwood, a notably beautiful young southern woman, daughter of Capt. Benjamin Lockwood of the United States Army. In this connection it may be of interest to note the fact that Mrs. Honoré's mother, after the death of Capt. Lockwood, became the wife of John Cleves Symes, also a Captain in the United States Army, and a man widely known for his scientific attainments." (from the article "Southern Men in Chicago - Henry Hamilton Honoré" by Howard Louis Conard included in The National Magazine, Volume XVI. Published in 1892)
