William Dobson, a Private, U.S. Army, in Company B of the 2nd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillary Regiment, was killed-in-action, while charging a fort, on September 29, 1864, during the Battle of Chaffin's Farm.
His older brother, Thomas Dobson, served in Co.G of the 113th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment and survived the War.

William Dobson was born about 1828, in Pennsylvania, to John Dobson [born ~1790; died before 1850] and Elizabeth Stouffer/Stewbire [born ~1790; died after 1850].

William's paternal grandfather was William Dobson Sr., who was born about 1755, in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. His paternal grandmother was Mary Margaret Wiggins (Margaret Dobson) and she was born about 1760. They were most likely were buried in Cranberry Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
William and Margaret's son, (the uncle of PVT William Dobson,) William Dobson Jr. and his wife Barbara, were buried in Cranberry.

William was survived by his wife, Sarah Jane McCandless and his four children, all living in Butler County, Pennsylvania.
