Mary Agnes Janke, 89 of Washington, IL, formerly of Peoria, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, July 6, 2017.

She was born to the late Oliver and Lillian (Hemphill) Draher on April 8, 1928, in Peoria, IL. She married the late Elwood “Bud” Janke on April 26, 1947.

Mary is survived by 9 children, Gary (Deborah) Janke of Brentwood, TN, Gail (Lu) Ori, Janet (Todd) Prose, and Cindy (Mike) Coyle all of East Peoria, IL, Donna (Matt) Kuhn of Elmwood, IL, Debra Stein of Highwood, IL, Susan (Tim) Holt of Metamora, IL, Mary (Pat) Monckton of Peoria, IL, and Lori (Greg) Birkland of Washington, IL. She is survived by 25 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, George (Colleen) Draher of Pekin, IL, brother-in-law Clarence (Red) Heinz and sister-in-law Suzie Draher both of Peoria, IL, sister-in-law Yvonne Blackard of Hurst, TX, and brother-in-law Don (Judy) Lewis of Reno, NV. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mary was proceeded in death by her son James “Jim” Janke, eight sisters; Anne, Pearl, Virginia, Armella, Irene, Mabel, Rita, and Suzanne, one brother, Richard Draher and grandson, Chase Janke.

Mary graduated from Manual High School and loved attending her class reunions. She was a prayer warrior, a member of the St. Thomas Women’s Guild and the Martha Mary group. She volunteered in the church office at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Peoria Heights, IL. She loved going for coffee with her friends after morning Mass. Mary loved sewing, cooking, baking, bird watching, crafts, and playing bingo. As some people journey through life they leave foot prints, Mary’s footprints are of kindness and love, courage and compassion, joy and faith. She left a path bright with hope and love that she invited her children to follow.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM at St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, IL on Monday, July 10, 2017, with the Rosary to follow. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at the church with visitation one hour prior. Fr. Paul Stark, S.J. will officiate and burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, in honor of Mary, may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, IL, or a charity of your choice.
