Joe Salazar, 52 yrs. young, passed away on February 17, 2007. He was born on December 22, 1954 in Phoenix, Arizona to the union of Isidro & Lenora Salazar. Joe had worked for the City of Phoenix for 10 years. Joe's love of travel and adventure availed him the opportunity to travel to numerous cities. He had resided in California, Texas, and Louisiana. Joe moved to New Orleans in 1998. He loved the city of New Orleans and had participated in many community events, including the 14th Annual Friends of the Cabildo Walking Tour of Historic French Quarter's Architecture and Historic Figures. Joe's love for the city of New Orleans encouraged him to endure the wrath & aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. He returned to Phoenix and received a heart transplant on July 10, 2006. Joe established true friends throughout his life and while working at City of Phoenix Municipal Court, 1st Interstate Bank in Los Angeles, Hertz in Houston, LSU Infectious Disease Center, and as a Public Safety Ranger for Downtown Development District in New Orleans. Joe leaves to cherish his memory & love; Sisters: Mary Helen Sanchez & Irene Coronado; Brothers: Henry, JW Salazar & Alfonso Alvarado; Nieces, Nephews, and many other relatives. Joe also leaves many friends that loved him very much, including the staff & patients at Mayo Clinic Hospital. Joe is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Isidro & Lenora Salazar, Sister Janie Salazar, and Brother Isidro Salazar II. A Memorial Service is planned on March 3, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Papago Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be directed to the Department of Development Mayo Clinic-Heart Transplant Program at 13400 East Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, Arizona 85259.
