Mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. Dorothy Nichols Dolbey served as the Mayor of Cincinnati in 1954. As a Charter Party member, Vice-Mayor Dolbey assumed office on May 12, 1954. She succededed Mayor Edward Waldvogel when he died in office and became the first woman to serve Cincinnati as Mayor. She won a seat on City Council when she was not re-elected as Mayor in October. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati and earned her masters degree from Columbia Teachers College. Dolbey was known for civic and organizational duties within the community, especially with church organizations, and received a National Citation for courageous citizenship and civic activity. She served on the Board of Trustees at the University of Cincinnati and was voted as the Cincinnati Woman of the Year in 1968. She died while on vacation in 1991 when she was 82 years old.
